The Mars Series
As his glyph suggests, Mars is the 'dick', the phallus. He is the ruler of both Aries and Scorpio. Your Mars placement points to your sexual nature, motivations, and approach to life.
Mars in Aries
Mars in Aries is the ultimate “macho” placement for he is unbound by the complexity of feeling and thought in the pursuit of his desires; he just wants to GET THERE. This is a loner placement as he more often than not finds himself singularly conquering a mountain that nobody else can scale. However, the people who support him on his way up to the apex of glory will be given a helping hand. The passionate wildfire of the Aries Mars needs to be fed so he does not burn out; hence his inability to sit for long periods. This placement denotes trouble with authority as he does not appreciate others exerting control over him. It is for this reason he does well in entrepreneurial fields or leadership roles. Having such a spirited, motivated and highly sexed placement can lead him to heartbreak or self-destruction as he will often act before he considers the consequences; in other words he “thinks with his dick.”
Mars in Aries is a polarising person, but he has a lot to offer, especially in situations where a warrior is needed to fight battles to secure the freedom of more vulnerable, placid people . He is the ‘muscle’ needed when other signs are too polite or too weak to accomplish goals that require brute force. Aries may be the emperor in the tarot deck, but he is also the solider who sacrifices his body to serve the greater good. The Aries Mars fights the wars but when he comes home he mends the fences, makes love to his woman, and teaches his children the art of warfare.
Mars in Taurus
In Greek Mythology, Venus, the goddess of love and pleasure, was the only one who could tame the blood-thirsty god of war, Aries. He was rendered so gentle and vulnerable in her embrace as she provided him with every carnal delight; satiating him into submission.
When Mars lies in Venus-ruled Taurus he is a gentle, sensual, earthy lover. He aims to please and he is a slave to his senses. Love making is long, hard and slow; something to savour and appreciate. A Taurus Mars enjoys the finer things in life; luxury, food and aesthetics, so he may have difficulty completing tasks unless the rewards are tangible. He is primarily motivated by security, money, or sensual pleasure. It is best he enjoy the journey to success rather than suffer through a torturous climb to achievement which makes life unbearable. Because of this the Taurus Mars is unfairly labelled as lazy or undisciplined, but when he immerses himself in the pleasure of the pursuit he does very well. Art, design, dance, music and food appeals to his passionate and pleasure seeking nature.
The Taurus Mars is slow moving, gentle, and sweet but he is steadfast in his stubborness. Bullfighting is not for the faint of heart; teasing and humiliating them might get them off their feet but they will not run in the direction you want them to.
Mars in Gemini
When Mars is placed in mercurial Gemini there is an intellectual aspect to their passions. He needs a lot of stimulation all the time, and it is for this reason he has many hobbies and interests that come and go over his lifetime. Mars in Gemini is motivated by ideas, experimentation, and exploration so he demonstrates skills and knowledge in multiple disciplines. Mars in Gemini is an ‘ADHD Mars’ so he is happiest living a life where he is free to wander, ponder, and explore as he pleases.
His sexual tastes are varied and open to try anything once as the carnal arts are a form of play. Sex is an application of the mind as much as it is of the body, so he is very creative when it comes to intimacy; he enjoys mixing it up by changing locations, introducing a variety of toys or tools, and he may even enjoy a bit of dirty talk while in the act. Mars in Gemini is social so he looks to surround himself with people who can keep him on his toes and challenge him in the intellectual arena. Mars in Gemini prefers to use words for weapons as he is a masterful wordsmith. He fashions insults like a blacksmith fashions swords.
Mars in Cancer
When the god of war and fire is plunged into the sea he behaves very differently. He is like a Spartan warrior lost and floating out at sea after a shipwreck; paranoid he might be swallowed up by the unseen monsters circling below. A drowning Cancer Mars will act in defence rather than attack for he has no firm footing to skilfully win a battle. His vulnerability is due to being stripped of his male ego and bravado; clumsily swimming to shore in his heavy armour while clutching his sharp weapons.
Mars in Cancer is driven by emotions and intimate connection; he looks for stability in relationships which ironically leads him to stay in situations which cause great emotional pain; holding onto someone like a piece of floating debris so he won’t be consumed by waves of sadness. Similar to the Taurus Mars, he enjoys tangible rewards, carnal delights, food, and creative expression. But unlike the Taurus Mars he will complete dreaded tasks in the name of love and duty. He is an iron fist in a velvet glove, and demonstrates his dominance over others in passive, less direct ways. If he wants you to do something he will lovingly embrace you as while appealing to your emotions. Cancer Mars will become emotionally connected during sex, so it is best he has it in a safe and secure romantic partnership. Meaningless sex pollutes the body and the soul; making him feel empty and cheap.
Mars in Leo
Mars in Leo is the master of peacocking; he is expressive, artistic, and very very pretty. He does well in artistic pursuits as he is wants to make the world more beautiful. The Leo Mars is motivated by self-expression, applause, and achievement. Because Leo is the sign of leisure, pleasure, and performance the daily grind must be enjoyable for him. He works hard and plays even harder. The Leo Mars looks to achieve grand things, and to receive a standing ovation for it. He lives for an ego stroke; praise, accolades, and public recognition are the ultimate pay offs for his hard work. He forges loyal and loving friendships and working relationships; preferring to keep a small creative team around him as he pursues his goals to greatness.
A Leo Mars wants to be revered; to be worshipped. Sex is a sacred ritual in which a partner can come worship at his altar. Sex is a time to shine and he may even enjoy observing himself in the mirror. While he may enjoy casual sex, he is incredibly picky with his partners as he holds himself to a high aesthetic standard. If a Leo Mars chooses to bed you, take it as a compliment for they only want “the best”.
Mars in Virgo
Mars in Virgo is an unassuming placement for it is one that is of service to others. He offers a lot to the world, and will sacrifice his own happiness for the greater good. It is one of the most selfless placements as he aims for perfection. The Virgo Mars takes on jobs where he is responsible for the well being and safety of others, which is why he must emotionally detach to get the job done properly. The world needs the Virgo Mars, and it is a position he laments and resents, but he understands the honour of his duty to service. The Virgo Mars is a master of his craft; motivated by responsibility, efficiency, perfection and beauty. His brain is wired to learn things quickly so he finds it easy to commit to the routine and practice of whatever skill set required to get a job done properly. It is important for him to maintain his sanity in the eye of the storm; keeping his home and work spaces tidy and clean. The Virgo Mars’ downfall lies in the unfair expectations he places on others which leads to messy intimate entanglements.
While the Virgo Mars may seem prudish and reserved, the bedroom is a place to offload their neuroticism and anxiety. He can border on sexual depravity as it is the one place he is allowed to be messy and colour outside the lines. Every inch of his lover’s body will be explored as the Virgo Mars approaches sex with the same level of dedication as he does with everything else in his life.
Mars in Libra
Mars in Libra is a soldier deployed for diplomatic missions as he is one that ‘fights for the peace’. Instead of burning bridges he will build them. The Libra Mars has a gift for communication; he will either use words to negotiate a peace treaty or a pen to sign off on a war when common ground cannot be reached. He makes a wonderful politician, lawyer, or diplomat as his words are the most effective weapons in his arsenal.
The Libra Mars is motivated by cooperative partnership, popularity, and beauty which is both the source of his power and his downfall. He is often ‘the meat in the sandwich’ when he plays the role of referee between two warring parties. While he has honourable intentions, he will often choose the path of popularity over what is right to avoid making enemies. This fence sitting eventually discredits him among allies. At his worst, the Libra Mars resorts to petty gossip and manipulation because he would prefer not to spill blood. He is prone to people-pleasing and finds it difficult to assert himself in situations where his kindness is taken advantage of.
Similarly to Leo mars, he is a wonderful performer/artist; creative pursuits allow him to deal with anger healthily. Bottling up anger eventually leads to inappropriate and shocking displays of rage, mimicking his shadow sign, Aries. So watch out and be kind to these people who work so hard to keep balance and order.
The Libra Mars aims to please in the bedroom; he does well when his partners give him a map, torch, compass and directions. He enjoys the art of courtship and is often spoiled for choice when it comes to selecting a partner. The Libra Mars would prefer to sample all the flavours before he can confidently choose to commit to a favourite flavour.
Mars in Scorpio
Mars is the ancient ruler of Scorpio, so this placement is exactly where it needs to be. While an Aries Mars embodies the first gasp of life of springtime, Scorpio is the last as it enters the death of winter. Scorpio Mars approaches life passionately yet cautiously with intention and focus. He remains still, like a Scorpion, waiting patiently for the right time to strike a foe, and he only needs ONE shot. Scorpio Mars will spend time studying their enemies to understand them; to find the chinks in their armour, and only then will they make their presence known!
Scorpio Mars is an expert detective who will uncover your secrets, desires, and wounds with the intention to either court you or kill you. His survivalist mentality makes him hungry for power and control as he will face the brink of death many times throughout his life. It is best not to piss off the Scorpio Mars as they have ammunition stocked at all times.
He is a deeply passionate and enthusiastic lover but their carnal urges can get them into a lot of trouble. Sex is a euphoric sacrifice for they must trust a lover enough to expose the soft underbellies hidden by their infallable armour. If he is vulnerable it is because he feels safe enough to consent to it. Scorpio rules the genitals so it is apt that this sign is the most powerful; life giving, dominant but also exposed and delicate.
Mars in Sagittarius
Rules and laws have no hold on the boundless, expansive energy of a Sagittarius Mars. He is spirited and can only be governed by the moral compass that lays inside his heart. The fires of a Sagittarius Mars is fed by opportunities to grow intellectually and spiritually; they are explorers hungry for freedom and infinite landscapes. Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius governs philosophy, religion, travel and exploration; it is for this reason he often chooses the lifestyle of a lone wolf, or he is the quiet misfit of his family. Sagittarius Mars is experimental, open minded, and rebellious as his main motivation in life is to live by his own principals and belief systems. An evolved Sagittarius Mars beholds no power in influence, popularity, and monetary gain as these are things that will ultimately trap him into obligation. He would rather live the life of a vagabond and be a law unto himself. Sagittarius Mars very often sees money and material luxuries as a chocolate box prison so they will very often walk away from whatever privileges they are born into just so they can be themselves.
For the Sagittarius Mars, sex is an adventure packed full of experimentation and discovery. While they are capable of monogamy and deep love (which is dependent on their Venus and Juno placements) the actual act of sex is playtime, and they can maintain a level of detachment. Their lover’s body is a playground meant for a good time. While Gemini Mars makes for a great student of the carnal arts, the Sag Mars is the teacher, so enjoy those private lessons if you ever get the chance!
Mars in Capricorn
When Mars, the god of impulsivity, war and bloodlust lies in Grandfather Saturn’s home sign, Capricorn, he evolves into a wiser, patient, and more intelligent version of himself. This placement is exalted, and exhausted! The Capricorn Mars may be a little slower than the rest, but that does not mean he softens. This quiet visionary is sharp, precise, disciplined, and controlled in his pursuit of stability, wealth and respect. The Capricorn Mars understands the power of earning their wealth and power; to have something that can never be taken away from them. Capricorn is cardinal earth; the type that is churned up and broken to reveal the gold nuggets. He is someone who will journey across the desert to find a promised oasis; or, just like his goat mascot, will scale the mountain to reach the summit. A Capricorn Mars will silently prepare for the apocalypse; he will build his ark while the rest of the world foolishly ignores signs of impending doom.
Capricorn is the sign associated with the Devil, so sex is something they either relish or refrain from; it really depends on their circumstance. Sexual intimacy is serious business for it is a pleasure as much as it is a resource; like water, it is an essential to be utilised everyday, or something he must ration or refrain from until he has reached his destination. Just like a camel painfully making his way through a unbleached desert, a Capricorn Mars will go long stretches without taking a sip. But when he reaches that fresh water spring he will drink until the river bed is dry!
Saturn (Satan) rules Capricorn; a sign that governs sacrifice, hardship, and restraint as well as hedonism, exploitation and pay-off. The Capricorn Mars sees the fine line between pleasure and pain more clearly than any other placement, and they know exactly the right time to step over it. If there is an apocalypse happening, you will want to be of use to him because he will not only survive it, he will flourish in it.
Mars in Aquarius
Mars in Aquarius is the creative visionary who will not be bound by the rules and structures of the old world. He works for no authority because he IS the authority. The Aquarius Mars cannot sit still as his innovative ideas and projects keep him on his feet from dawn till dusk. The Aquarius Mars has the unique ability to hyper-focus in his obsessive pursuits to build a better world for themselves and others. He does well in the creative and technological fields, both of which have to be connected to a greater good or humanity’s progress.
The Aquarius Mars is notorious for being a ‘freak’ due to his alternative lifestyle and creative approach to sexual intimacy. He will try anything at least once and when he finds something he enjoys it quickly turns into a longstanding kink or fetish. The Aquarius Mars enjoys experimenting, exploring, and role playing and this might be with one person or twenty; Aquarius is the sign of expansive networks so they love the company! While this is a masculine placement, they tend to have a dress and/or communication style that is androgynous. Aquarius is light and sky, and similarly to the watery Pisces, they have NO LIMITS.
Mars in Pisces
Neptune’s waters boil when Mars lies at the bottom of his ocean. Mars in Pisces is a contradiction for he is both powerful and enslaved. He is not motivated by material wealth, sexual dominance, nor his own survival and that is what makes him so dangerous. This downing watery Mars is motivated by things that go beyond this physical reality for he seeks a connection to God. The Pisces Mars has no fear of death for he may face it so often in his life, so he prefers to travel down roads that will lead him to divinity or immortality, and it is very often a reckless one. To the rest of the world he is a danger to himself as he often falls into cycles of addiction when connection has been denied. The sensory pleasures of sex, drugs, and food make themselves available to him in the nightmarish world of oppressive rules and structures that inhibit his freedom.
The Pisces Mars is a slave to his senses for he knows no boundaries. When the planet of motivation lies in the sign of delusion, fantasy and the infinite they can be their own worst enemy. His impulsive and passionate nature needs an artistic outlet as he taps into the collective subconscious. He feels too much, too soon, and all at once which can be a catalyst for creation or chaotic destruction. The Pisces Mars detests conflict, so he will resort to slippery and dishonest behaviours in order to avoid it. When he does lose his temper it is because he has lost his mind.
It is best the Pisces Mars finds a committed parter to share his body and soul with as his impulsive sexual nature may lead him to pollute his bodies with the foul energies of dangerous, unworthy people. Sex is very often masochistic if it isn’t spiritually connected. They long to transport themselves into another dimension through the act of love making, but it can leave him vulnerable to exploitation, illness, and/or heartache.
